Summer Extended Learning Opportunities
We would like to give parents an update on our plan for summer Extended Learning Opportunities. As of now we are planning on offering two, two weeklong sessions for our current 6 – 8 graders. In the coming weeks we will be sending class recommendations to student’s parents. Below is some general information and descriptions of the classes being offered.
Times and Session Dates
Monday - Friday 8:30 to 11:30
Session 1 June 7th – June 18th
Session 2 July 26th – August 6th
Transportation
Shuttle Bus between HBRES and HBRHS daily to and from in the AM for Hinckley Students. Big Rock students will need to get to the middle school.
Class descriptions for current school year 6 - 8 grade students.
Language Arts and Social Studies classes would combine into to one class and work on reading comprehension, writing, synthesizing information, compare and contrast, inferential/conceptual knowledge, vocabulary.
Math and Science classes would combine into to one class and work on graphing, solving for variables, extended response, adding, subtracting, multiplying & dividing fractions, precents, positive and Negative numbers and measuring.
Both classes could also incorporate some Executive Function Skills like: note taking, organization, google classroom, email communication, emotional control and test taking activities.
We would certainly add sections/ dates for students if we get more interest or confirmation of attending. The current dates also mirror elementary and high school to help our parents plan summer activities. We are still working on final details and will email families when we finalized everything in early to mid-May.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact our office or if you are interested in enrolling your student in one of the two classes.
Have a great weekend and thank you for all you do,
Jeff Strouss
