Hinckley-Big Rock CUSD #429
Community Notification
April 14, 2025
Dear Hinckley-Big Rock Community,
We are writing to inform you about an important educational event that will take place at Hinckley-Big Rock High School on Wednesday, April 30th, beginning at 12:30 PM.
As part of our ongoing efforts to promote student safety and awareness, particularly around prom season, the high school will be hosting a distracted driving assembly in conjunction with a Mock Car Crash. This event, Operation Prom Night, is designed to simulate the aftermath of a serious car accident and will involve:
A realistic mock-up of a vehicle crash scene
Student actors playing the roles of crash victims
Participation from first responders from both the Hinckley and Big Rock communities, including fire, police, and medical helicopter response team.
Please be advised that the simulation will be very realistic in appearance and sound including the presence of emergency vehicles, sirens, and dramatic performances by student actors. The goal is to educate students about the potential consequences of impaired and distracted driving in a powerful, memorable way.
We understand that such events can be intense, but they are conducted with the utmost care and professionalism to ensure a safe, controlled learning experience for all involved. There will be counselors and comfort dogs on site for students to access after the simulation.
Thank you for your support in helping us provide meaningful, real-world learning opportunities for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the high school office.
Sincerely,
Becky Lauer
Principal
Hinckley-Big Rock High School
