We are excited to welcome Kalista Castillo to our Royal Family! She has quickly made great connections with our students and we are happy to have her here at HBR Middle School!
My name is Kalista Castillo and I am the new HBRMS Special Education teacher. I co-teach 8th and 6th grade ELA. I graduated with my Master of Education in May 2022. Throughout my childhood I moved several times because my dad was in the Army. My favorite place to live was Germany; it was so pretty and I learned so much about their culture. Prior to joining the HBR family, I was in Army ROTC at Cameron University. I completed four years of ROTC and my senior year I hurt my knee and I was unable to commission as an Army Officer due to the injury. I live in Somonauk, IL with my boyfriend. We are thinking about getting either a dog or cat. My hobbies include reading, running, watching sports and baking.
I am so excited for the 2022-2023 school year, so far I have had a wonderful experience. I enjoy the small school environment. It truly feels like a family. The staff has been very welcoming and helpful as I navigate my first year of teaching. I am ecstatic to be able start my teaching career in such an amazing school and district.
