Gooooood Morning HBR! My name is Andrew Lein and I am the transportation mechanic for our district. I started here in August of 2023 and boy has it been a ride so far (pun intended). My wife Gina and I have four children, three of which are enrolled at the elementary school, Grace (10), Henry (6), Oliver (4), and William (16mo).

I was raised in Naperville back when it was surrounded by farms, and my grandfather’s farm was one of them. He also had a farm out in Waterman, and I can remember stopping at Dairy Joy for ice cream on the way home from the farm. When it came time for me to choose my career I began working in the automotive industry during high school at my dad’s repair shop. After completing my four-year degree in automotive technology, I went to work for Navistar as a technical education developer and special tools engineer. After that I went back to work with my dad as a service manager before coming to work as the transportation mechanic at HBR.

We moved to Hinckley back in 2016, and since then our family has doubled in size. We have made wonderful friends and enjoyed many different aspects of our little community. We found out while purchasing our home that we were buying it from one teacher, and it had been owned by another teacher’s family before then.

Being the transportation mechanic here has been a great fit and I’ve learned that there is a lot more behind the scenes to getting our children to school than one would normally think. Making sure that all our kids make it to school and home safely is very fulfilling. I’ve also been able to assist with our maintenance staff on the upkeep of the buildings and infrastructure itself. This past winter was especially interesting, going out at 4:30 am to check the roads for our bus drivers, only to find massive ice patches and snow drifts large enough to swallow most cars. Thankfully I made it back in the truck.

I look forward to many more years of working so close to home and providing an essential service to our community.

We’ll be seein ya.
