Welcome to Hinckley-Big Rock Elementary School, a student centered elementary school located in Hinckley, Illinois in DeKalb County. Our school currently serves 300 students in early childhood, kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grades.
While promoting high achievement and academic progress of all students, we support the whole child through our emphasis of growing in resiliency and goal-setting. Our character program, PurposeFull People offers students numerous opportunities to demonstrate what it means to have good character and see the effect that those demonstrations have on others around them, as well as the overall learning environment. We promote citizenship and community building by partnering with our active PTO and parent community. The idea of the home-school relationship is alive and prominent in many facets of HBRES – from the many family activity nights to the yearly walk-a-thon designed to raise additional funding for the many classroom resources that enhance the classroom learning experience.
Our desire at Hinckley-Big Rock Elementary is to strive to empower all students to become successful through dynamic, differentiated, and authentic learning experiences, while supporting their transition through childhood development. The elementary school learner has diverse learning needs and wide ranging interests, academic strengths, and areas of concern. We pride ourselves upon our understanding of the complex developmental needs of the elementary school child and the necessary measures that we take each day to ensure that every student demonstrates success in the classroom and experiences greater confidence facing the ever evolving world in which we live.
